WORLD OF MEMORIES

From the album The Early Years

Listen: World of Memories

This song was originally recorded by Ronnie Dove, a recording star in his own right, and I recorded it at RCA Studio B in Nashville, TN.  Ronnie produced this song along with 3 others: Little Boy Like You, I Let Him Know and Tiger At HomeTiger At Home was later redone with Jimmy Capps at Hill Top Studios.

We recorded everyone out in the open in a large room with the drums behind a sound absorber and the Hammond organ was added at the end.  We had a full stringed orchestra and everyone had to get their parts right during a take, or the entire song would have to be recorded over again as there weren't many tracks available to use back then.

Cliff Parman was the arranger and really helped me feel at home as I admit, I was nervous.  I didn't want to be the cause of everyone having to do it over and over.

Ronnie was relaxed and soft spoken and really put me at ease.  He had a huge hit with this song, and I was so honored that he offered to record me as well.

We took a short break, and I was on my way down the hall looking for the Ladies Room with my head down and thinking when all of a sudden I was stopped short by 2 very large red, shiney, cowboy boots.  I looked up and it was Porter Wagoner!  He asked if he could come in and listen.  That didn't bother me, but I told him he would need to ask Ronnie.  So, when we resumed again, there he was cheering me on.

Though it was suggested that we release a single with I Let Him Know-side A backed with Tiger At Home-side B, this song is one of Gary's favorites from this session.
