The Jewel of Jamestown

When we first came to North Carolina, we happened to pass through the lovely little town of Jamestown.  I loved driving through Main Street and noticed all the little shops, and restaurants, a bakery and a few night spots for entertainment.  But the place that caught my eye was the Soap Lady Store tucked away on a small side street.  I made a mental note to come back here and explore.

It wasn't too long after we had moved in to our new home that I drove over to the heart of Jamestown and went exploring and found The Soap Lady.  It appeared that this quaint little shop was also a place where people came to buy soap and other items and visit with Susan Stringer, founder and owner, as well as each other.  When you walk in, the air is filled with a wonderful aroma.

I noticed how Susan took the time to assist each customer and chatted with each and every one as though they were the most important person to her.  She asked after family members and graciously welcomed me as a new member of the community.

I asked Susan how she got in to soap making and she said she had learned to make soap as a child from her grandmother.  She has carried on that tradition over the years and perfected her own recipes and methods.

One particular story that really stood out was about one of her daughters who suffered from eczema and how she made her own special cream.  She said, " It's made with no preservatives, only pure natural emollients and beeswax.  It worked for her when no other recommended product would."  She named it Extreme Crème.  And now, it's one of her most requested items!

In January 2018, Susan relocated her store across the parking lot on to Main Street.  The new shop is larger and beautifully decorated with her Southern charm displaying her soap, lotions, sugar scrub and shower gels along with other items from the local artists whom she supports.  You may find wood products, local honey, hand made pottery, paintings, metal art, bird houses, jewelry, and more.  There's always something new.

With more than 185+ fragrances and new ones being created, you're sure to find a scent that is just right for you.  Her soap products are all hand made using only essential oils and no chemicals.  The soap comes in many shapes and sizes, and she offers something special for every occasion and season.

Susan gives back to her community particularly with local charities and fund raising events. Her custom made private label soaps are in several restaurants, have been commissioned for corporate events and even found at the Sarasota Polo Club in FL.

If you don't have the opportunity to visit her store in Jamestown, NC, you can also find her on line at TheSoapLadyStore.com.  She primarily ships throughout the continental United States, but will ship anywhere in the world if you contact her personally.

The Soap Lady store is located at 106 Main Street, Jamestown, NC 27282 - TEL: 336-883-7627.

Congratulations to Susan Stringer, The Soap Lady, and celebrating her 25th year in business!
